A TODDLER who has cerebral palsy has benefited from proceeds raised at a charity day held in memory of a man who died on one of the region's roads last year.

The inaugural Mark Swales Memorial charity day, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, raised £620 for Joshua Peacock.

The Joshua Peacock Fund was set up a few months ago to help his family pay for specialist care and equipment to look after their son.

"This is a wonderful amount of money and I am so very grateful to Mark Swales' family and friends for all their support," said the two-year-old's mother, Vikki, of St James' Drive, Northallerton.

Mr Swales died when the car in which he was a passenger hit railings at Church View, Ainderby Steeple, North Yorkshire, in November.

Last month, his friends and family organised a charity fundraising event, held on the weekend of what would have been his 30th birthday.

The Swales' family have thanked all those who supported the event, particularly Durham Ox football club manager Andrew Vickers and friend Neil Hemingbrough.
