SPECIALIST craftsmen are giving the public a chance to look behind the scenes and learn the techniques used to keep York Minster's stonework looking so beautiful.
The Minster stoneyard will open its gates next week to give visitors the opportunity to see the craftsmen at work in their carving and masonry workshops.
The free open day, on Friday, will allow visitors to see demonstrations of stone sawing and shaping as well as take them on guided tours around areas such as the plaster cast museum and drawing shop.
Enthusiasts will also be invited to step into "experts corner", and ask the carpenters, electricians, gardeners and scaffolders questions about their specialised work on the Minster.
The stoneyard is located at 4 Deangate, York, and will be open to the public between 9.30am and 3pm.
