PREPARATIONS are well under way for the world's most famous aerobatics display team to jet into the region and thrill crowds over the bank holiday weekend.

The Red Arrows team will be performing a spine-tingling display on both Sunday and Monday, August 24 and 25, as part of the Yorkshire Air Show 2003, at Elvington Air Field, near York, North Yorkshire.

The nine-plane team will undertake the spectacular Champagne Split, a new move for 2003 that will prove particularly fitting as this year the show celebrates Yorkshire's pivotal role in the development of aviation.

The two-day show, which comprises a three-and-a-half hour air display each day, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the first manned, heavier than air machine flight at Brompton Dale, near Scarborough, and will see aircraft of all shapes and sizes take to the skies to mark the occasion.

In addition to the Red Arrows there will be other popular crowd pleasers such as the Catalina flying boat, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Tornadoes and The Utterly Butterly Flying Circus.

Anyone who wants more information about the show can visit www.elvington.org.uk and advanced bookings can be made by calling the hotline on (01759) 305851.
