COUNTY Durham could get its own Yellow Pages business telephone directory.
Publisher Yell is considering printing a County Durham edition, which would include Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland and St John's Chapel.
The Sunderland Yellow Pages, which at present includes County Durham, would go as far as Trimdon and Peterlee.
The company said the proposed move was because of changes in population and significant changes in shopping habits.
It said initial research showed that "community-focused'' directories would be more useful.
The company is carrying out consultations until Friday, September 12.
Richard Duggleby, Yell's head of external relations, said: "Before we decide whether to go ahead we are carrying out a widespread public consultation that will enable people to give us their views on the proposed new coverage areas.
"The aim is to ensure that Yellow Pages remains as relevant as possible to the people of Sunderland and Durham.''
