RSPCA inspectors in the North-East are to be balloted today on a possible strike over job losses.

Members of the Amicus union will vote on whether to strike over plans to cut 230 jobs nationally as part of restructuring aimed at saving millions of pounds.

BERTIE'S BACK: Bertie Bassett, one of Britain's most recognised sweet characters, who was created in 1929, returns to TV screens this week as a 5in computer animated character, after a ten-year break.

BIKE STOLEN: A blue and black XCR N-Force full suspension mountain bike, valued at £220, was stolen from Temple Way, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, between 1pm and 2pm on Tuesday.

COUPLE FOUND: A couple who went missing on July 30 have been found. Susan Briens, 58, disappeared from a nursing home in Windsor Drive, Wallsend, North Tyneside, with husband, Stephen, 46, who had gone to visit her. The pair have been found safe in Edinburgh.
