LOCAL authorities across the country have been looking to the North-East on setting up uniformed warden schemes.
Darlington Borough Council's community warden initiative featured in the BBC Real Story programme on August 4, focusing on the work authorities are doing to crack down on litter.
A film crew followed two of the council's 15 wardens carrying out enforcement duties, including handing out fixed penalty notices to people dropping litter.
The programme sparked an influx of calls to Darlington council from other authorities wanting advice on how to adopt similar schemes.
Bill Dixon, cabinet member for social services, said: "Darlington's uniformed wardens are professional and well respected, providing a high visibility presence on our streets."
