COUNCIL officials have voiced their support for an event promoting religious harmony in Darlington.
The second annual Khalsa Day on Sunday, August 24, offers a series of events, including an appearance by Dya Singh, who was voted best male artist of the year at the World Music Awards.
It has been organised by the Akal Federation UK and Darlington Borough Council.
Various events, including Sikh martial arts demonstrations, will be taking place at the Darlington Gurdwara Sahib (temple), in Louisa Street, from 10am to 3pm.
Bill Dixon, council cabinet member for social services, said: "The second Khalsa Day will give local people the opportunity to find out more about another religion and culture in Darlington.
"The day is an example of how working with local communities can develop a greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures and beliefs."
