PLANNERS are recommending the go-ahead for a detached home in a village paddock following the ruling of an independent Government inspector.

Alan Speight has applied to build the property north of Oakfold, Skelton-on-Ure, near Ripon.

The application will be considered by councillors at an area planning meeting of Harrogate Borough Council on Tuesday.

At an earlier hearing it had been argued that the proposal was against council planning policy, did not provide affordable housing and was at a very low density.

But the independent inspector considered the development was a more efficient use of land than at present and there was no case to say the home would not fit the council's affordable housing policy.

Skelton-on-Ure Parish Council has raised no objection, and a letter from a resident has not opposed the scheme.

The council has therefore been recommended to approve the proposal.
