THE regeneration of an old Teesside neighbourhood is about to reach a milestone.

Offices have been found and are soon to be unveiled for the North Ormesby Neighbourhood Management Pilot.

The base will be used by the Tees Valley Housing Group which has been appointed by Middlesbrough Council to co-ordinate the resident-led Middlesbrough project.

The area was chosen for the scheme because of its strong community spirit and need for improved local services.

Councillor Ron Lowes of Middlesbrough Council, a former resident of North Ormesby, said: "The neighbourhood management initiative will build on the pride and sense of place which so many people in North Ormesby have.

"The project will help them make a significant contribution to the community's regeneration and give a lead to the rest of Middlesbrough."

The Reverend Graham Usher, vicar of North Ormesby, said: "As a resident of North Ormesby, I see the problems of the area but also the potential for making this a great place in which to live. I welcome this initiative that aims to put the needs of the local population first and provide them with the services that they need."
