A dancing rottweiler and his owner will perform at Dalton Village Hall on Thursday, August 28.

Heather Stevens, from Ravensworth, and her dog, Joshua, will be at the hall from 7pm to 9.30pm. There will be two demonstrations and advice on teaching dogs to dance. Call (01833) 621236 for tickets.

PLANNING CHANGE: Grinton Parish Council chairman, Harold Brown, has taken the helm of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's planning committee. A farmer and prominent member of the local branch of the NFU, he was elected as chairman at a meeting in Middleham on Tuesday.

ROAD CLOSED: Hambleton motorists are being warned about the temporary closure of Beningbrough Lane, Beningbrough, due to resurfacing work. Work will take place from next Monday to Saturday. The closure will only be put in place during these times when necessary.

ROMAN TIMES: A team of Roman re-enactors will be camped out at the Museum Gardens in York this weekend to help visitors travel back in time. There will be weapon drills and demonstrations of fighting techniques as well as displays of crafts and skills from the period such as bone and wood-working, cooking and leather-making.

POLAR TALK: Polar explorer and adventurer Robert Swan will be giving a fundraising talk at Bedale High School on September 4 in support of Dales-Care, a charity helping older people. The talk begins at 7pm and tickets, at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, include light refreshment.

SCUBA COURSE: Children can explore the world of scuba diving at the Yearsley swimming pool, in York. Day taster courses are being held this summer. Events include an underwater egg-and-spoon race.

YOUNG WORKSHOPS: The Yorkshire Museum in York is hosting children's Roman workshops from Saturday until August 31.
