POLICE have arrested two teenagers after the death of a pensioner who was hit on a pedestrian crossing by a stolen car.

Bernard Darby, 75, of Penrith Close, Redcar, east Cleveland, died in the intensive care unit of Middlesbrough General Hospital on Tuesday, following the hit-and-run incident on Monday.

The married grandfather-of-six was crossing Marton Road, in Middlesbrough, when he was hit by a blue Honda Civic, which was found on fire shortly afterwards.

Yesterday, Cleveland Police said two 17-year-olds from Middlesbrough would be interviewed.

Detectives also want to trace a third youth in connection with the incident.
