FAMILIES are being urged to get out their bicycles and take part in a 15-mile ride for charity this weekend.

Cancer Research UK is running its 15-mile Durham Cycle for Life event on Sunday to raise money for research into men's cancers.

The event, which raised £12,000 last year, starts from the Meadowfield Leisure Centre, near Durham.

Once the cycle ride's male participants have crossed the finishing line, a "mobile pampering paradise" will be waiting for them, including table football, Scalextric, leather sofas and wide-screen televisions showing sporting highlights and comedy classics. The Nivea for Men Retreat will also be offering free shaves and facials.

National organiser Melanie Heath said: "There is still time to register for this year's Cycle for Life and help us raise money for vital research."

One in three men is diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives and 14,500 men in the North of England are diagnosed with the disease every year.

To take part, register on line at www.cancerresearchuk. org/cycle, call 0870 161 1010, or enter on the day.

The registration fee is £7.50 for adults, £4.50 for under-18s, or £10 for adults and £5 for children on the day.
