A famous DJ is to start a European tour in the North-East.

Jazzy Jeff, who has worked with rapper and actor Will Smith, star of the film Men in Black, will appear at Atlantic, in Darlington, next Thursday.

The DJ produced songs with Smith under the name Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and wrote the theme tune for the television programme The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

They sold more than ten million records and won a host of awards in the process.

Owner of Atlantic, in Duke Street, Les Langley, said: "It is not only great news for the club, but also for Darlington, that someone of his stature has chosen Darlington to kick off his European tour."

Earlier this month, DJ Kerri Chandler appeared at the event, called Solid Ground, and was so impressed he went back to the Atlantic club the next day with a gift of a new monitor and sound system.

Promotor of Solid Ground Steven Hunt said: "I have no doubt that Jazzy Jeff will enjoy the venue and the reception from the people like Kerri Chandler."

Admission on the door is £9. Doors open at 7pm. Clubbers are advised to arrive early.
