Crook Town CC under-15 bowlers Lee Formosa and Nick Dalton were in devastating form at Ushaw Moor on Tuesday August 5 bowling out the home side for only seven runs with eight batsmen collecting ducks.

Both youngsters bowl medium pace and had identical figures of five wickets for three runs. Nick, 14, a pupil at Wolsingham Comprehensive School, said: "They had one or two missing and there were a number of under 13 players in their team but five wickets for 13 runs is my best bowling return."

Lee, 15, who attends St Leonard's RC School in Durham was equally pleased: "My best bowling figures were seven wickets for 13 runs against Washington earlier in the season but obviously I'm very happy with five wickets for three runs."

Lee's family have a long tradition with Crook CC. His great grandfather Sid Coates, now 97, was captain of the very successful Crook team which won five trophies in 1935, while his grandfather is Roy Coates, 68, the current secretary of the Durham County League.

Roy captained the very successful Crook team of the 1980s which included West Indian Andrew Lyght. Roy said: "I've never known a junior side to be bowled out for seven runs.

"Both Lee and Nick have are very promising cricketers while Lee is a good all rounder and last year was voted the most improved junior at Crook. He has been selected for the Durham County League under 15 side this season and opens the bowling for the Crook Town second XI. He has also played a few first team matches. Richard Manuel has helped him a lot while Quenten Hughes at St Leonard's School has also developed his skills. He is the leading wicket taker in the under 15 section with 24 wickets."

Nick Dalton plays his senior cricket with his father Graeme at North Bitchburn who play in the North East Durham League. He is a bowler and middle order batsman.

The swiftness of the game at Ushaw Moor surprised the Crook Town scorer Colin Short who said: "I couldn't believe it, they opened their innings at 6pm, we went out to bat at 6.30pm and we were all back in Crook at 7pm."
