A TEENAGER was mugged for his holiday savings yesterday.

The 15-year-old had been riding his bike into Peterlee town centre, County Durham, through the North Blunts area, carrying £98 in 20p and 5p pieces, which he planned to change into notes and take on a family holiday to Spain.

At 1.40pm, as he rode down Burnhope Way and towards an underpass, he was grabbed by the arm and pulled from his bicycle.

The attacker, a man in his twenties, snatched the teenager's bag containing the cash and his mobile phone, before making off on his victim's bike.

He rode for about 300 yards in the direction of the second underpass on St Andrew's Way, before leaving the bicycle and disappearing.

He is described as 5ft 6in to 5ft 7in and had a tattoo of a dagger on his left forearm and another tattoo on his right.

He was wearing a T-shirt with black and white stripes, and wore tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

PC Richard Knott said the teenager was badly shaken, but otherwise uninjured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Peterlee police on 0191-586 2621 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
