A FRESH intake of Modern Apprentices have started work with Sedgefield Borough Council.
The Mayor, Councillor George Gray, was on hand to welcome the six new starters on their opening day this week.
Aged between 16 and 18, they have secured employment in various departments to study towards Key Skills, NVQ Level 3 in Administration, European Computer Driving Licence and the Certificate in Administration.
They will be given the opportunity to gain further training and enhance their qualifications in the administration field while employed in their chosen career.
Spokesman Graham Robinson said: "The council considers the Modern Apprenticeship programme as a major recruitment tool and, since the introduction of the programme in 1995, some 79 youngsters have secured permanent employment with us."
