THE last serving member of the old York City Police is to retire from the North Yorkshire force next week.
Chief Superintendent Paul Gregory, who is the head of the force's administration of justice department, joined as a cadet in 1967.
His progression through the ranks involved postings including Northallerton, Scarborough, Malton and his native York.
In 1985, he became the chief inspector at Northallerton, and later became acting superintendent at both Harrogate and Richmond.
He was promoted to superintendent in 1996 as divisional commander at Richmond.
In 1999, he took command of the newly-formed Eastern Area covering Scarborough, Ryedale and Hambleton, until he moved to headquarters two years ago to head the administration of justice department.
