A DAY centre will stay closed for a further three weeks following flooding in Sunday's storm.

The Warren Road Day Opportunities Centre, Hartlepool, for people with learning disabilities, organises activities for about 220 people aged 19 and over.

The storm caused drains to overflow, which damaged the carpet tiles in most of the centre, and a new floor covering will have to be fitted.

It is hoped the centre may be able to reopen on or about Monday, September 8. Meanwhile, social services staff are making other arrangements for people wherever possible.

These include finding temporary placements at other venues within the community.
