WITH no houses and just one door to its name it is one of the smallest streets in the world.

Minden Street is so short it does not even have a postcode and thousands of passers-by miss it every day.

It measures 43ft and takes between 20 and 25 steps to walk down.

It is located near the Manors Metro station, in Newcastle, with the busy A193 New Bridge Street running on one side.

The bottom of the street is blocked by bollards and one side has a small grassed area. Behind the bollards is a path and a car park.

The Stout Fiddler pub, which has a New Bridge Street address, has an entrance on Minden Street

Landlord Greg Neville has laid out four tables on the pavement for customers.

He said: "I have personally never seen a smaller street than this one, and it is quite strange.

"I think it may have been a longer thoroughfare at one point before the car park was built. The street just starts and stops. It cannot be more than 25 yards."

But Newcastle's little gem is just longer than the shortest street in the world.

The Guiness Book of Records gives that title to Elgin Street, in the Lancashire town of Bacup, which measures only 5.2 metres, 17ft, and has one house.
