RESIDENTS of a town are being encouraged to help piece together the history of their community.
Material is needed for an exhibition telling the story of Stokesley, North Yorkshire.
Members of Stokesley Local History Study Group are seeking maps, photographs, posters, newspaper cuttings and post-cards, which will all be returned to the owners after the exhibition. People are also being asked to provide copies of Stokesley Scene, produced by Stokesley School pupils in the 1970s and 1980s.
The exhibition is planned for October, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Stokesley town hall, built by Colonel Robert Hildyard in 1853. It will be held in the recently refurbished building.
Group member Beryl Turner has presented Stokesley librarian Chris Bower with research material, including a booklet about St Peter and St Paul's Church, monumental churchyard inscriptions, workhouse census returns for 1841 to 1891, and the Hearth Tax List for 1673.
Anyone who can help with the displays is asked to contact Ms Turner on (01642) 714479
