THE only North-East heat of the National Motor Championship Autotest will be held tomorrow.

The Hartlepool Motor Club meeting has attracted 27 drivers from around Britain and more are expected to enter before tomorrow.

The autotest sets a course that drivers must complete in as short a time as possible.

Local hopes are centred on Paul Swift, from Darlington, but last year's winner and national champion, Dave Mosey, is favourite. He has recently taken up rallying and will be driving a Mini saloon. There will also be a ladies' class, although there are no North-East entries.

Two tests will be held at Hartlepool town centre car park, to the rear of Yorkshire Bank, in York Road. Spectators can watch in safety from raised walkways, from 10.30am to 4pm.

Anyone interested in volunteering as a marshal is asked to contact Chris Langan on (01429) 223949 or (01429) 275615.
