TWO men were being hunted by police yesterday after a vicious early-morning knife attack.

A 24-year-old man was waiting for a taxi in Blossom Street, York, when he was attacked at about 2am yesterday.

Police said two men had been throwing bottle and other objects at him, and when he went to object, one of them stabbed him.

When the cab arrived at the scene the driver found the man bleeding heavily from a stab wound to the abdomen, and took him straight to hospital.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Costello said the victim was in a stable condition and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

He said: "It was an unprovoked attack on this young man who went across the street and remonstrated with the two individuals who were throwing objects at him as he waited for a taxi."

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the Blossom Street area between 1.30am and 2.30am yesterday, or who might recognise the descriptions.

He said it was possible the attackers had been drinking in the city and door staff, bar workers or other drinkers may have noticed aggressive or inappropriate behaviour.

Both men are described as white, aged between 20 and 30, with short, dark hair. They were both wearing white shirts and dark trousers. One may have been wearing a cream jumper.
