FORMER Darlington mayor Councillor Tony Richmond will be supporting the World's Biggest Coffee Morning event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief tomorrow.

He will be holding a coffee morning in his home, 47 The Headlands, Darlington, from 10am to 1pm, in memory of his wife Lyn, who died of breast cancer four years ago. Other events will be held in the Firthmoor Partnership Board shop, 65 Brignall Moor Crescent, from 8.30am to noon; in Crown Street Library, from 9.30am to 11.30am; in Eastbourne Care Home, Cobden Street, at 10.30am; and Cafe Gulp, in Priestgate, from 9.30am.

BIKE THEFTS: A black and silver BMX bicycle with its rear brake missing was stolen from North Road, Darlington, on Tuesday. A black Barracuda mountain bike and a black and yellow Hornet bike were also taken from Eastbourne. An Emelle Volcano mountain bike was stolen from the North Lodge area. CHURCH CONCERT: The Cockerton Silver Band will be joined by The Richardson Singers, a Darlington women's choir, for an evening of light entertainment in the town's St Cuthbert's Church on Saturday, at 7.30pm. There will also be a performance by Jimmy Hayes, principal cornet with the Scottish Co-op Band. Tickets are available on (01325) 482901.

PRIZE LEEKS: Darlington's best leeks will be on show at Harrowgate Working Men's Club, in Salters Lane, on Sunday. The Inter-Club Champion of Champions Leek Show opens at noon.

HIRE CENTRE: A branch of Hire Center is to open on a Darlington industrial estate. The chain of light plant and tool hire depots is expanding its services in the area. The new centre will be in Lingfield Way, on the Yarm Road industrial estate.

CARS RAIDED: Stereo music players were stolen from two vehicles, one parked at Larchfield Sports Centre, the other in Barningham Street, Darlington, on Tuesday.

RELATIVES SOUGHT: A woman is trying to trace members of her extended family, who she believes are living in Ferryhill. Michelle Barnett is trying to find members of the Bibby family related to, or who knew Andrew Scobie Ford or Martin Laird Ford, husband of Charlotte Cochrane Smith, from Perth in Scotland. BAND DEBUT: The Rowan Pipe Band will give its debut performance in Bishop Auckland on Saturday, from 9am to 4pm. Most of the musicians are also in the Richmond Town Pipe Band, previously known as Teesdale Pipes and Drums, from Barnard Castle.
