A NEW home is needed for a dog which was badly neglected by its owner.

Jason, a bull mastiff, is now recuperating at the National Animal Sanctuary Support League in Darlington.

He was found by police in an emaciated state in a flat in Hartlepool.

Pauline Wilson, from the league, said: "He is in a bit of a state. He is very, very thin and he has a skin condition which we think is probably due to poor diet.

"But he has a lovely temperament. He has been looked after by someone along the way because he will give you his paw. He is a big dog and we think he is about five years old."

Jason, named after the police officer who found him, needs owners with experience of bull mastiffs.

He is happy in the company of other dogs.

The league is also looking for a home for two inseparable cats. Tara and Pookie, a black long-haired cat and a tabby, are both female and aged about two.

"We couldn't split them up - they are quite devoted to each other," said Mrs Wilson.

"But they are not happy here. They are desperate to be in a nice home."

Anyone interested in giving Jason or the cats a home is asked to call 07748 268822 or (01325) 321855.
