A YEAR of success inside and outside the classroom was celebrated by comprehensive school pupils at a presentation evening.

Wolsingham School and Community College headteacher Mitch O'Reilly reported on triumph and tragedy in the school, which received an excellent report from inspectors from the Government's Office for Standards in Education.

She highlighted achievements in A-level, GCSE and Standard Assessment Test examinations, and praised pupils' efforts in activities as diverse as cross-country running and a mock trial contest. But the sudden deaths of teacher Alan Turnbull and fundraiser John Noddings had saddened pupils and staff. Olivia Grant, from the Learning and Skills Council, presented awards.
