NEARLY two thirds of UK manufacturers expect the economy to begin picking up by the spring, a survey commissioned by The Manufacturing Alliance revealed yesterday.
About 63 per cent of those polled predicted no improvement until the spring, and 15 per cent thought there would be no change until 2005.
But 18 per cent believe things are already improving.
Glen White, founder of The Manufacturing Alliance, said: "While there is no sign of a meteoric rise for manufacturing fortunes, the findings indicate the countdown has started to the launch of a new era of renewed confidence."
