A PLAYGROUP has been given a boost through a donation from a new supermarket.
The manager of Chester-le-Street's new Tesco store, Matthew Feather, visited Middle Chare Pre-School in the town, to hand over a £500 cheque.
The pre-school, situated within the grounds of Bullion Lane Primary School, has been running for the past 20 years, and was originally based in Middle Chare.
The playgroup raises money for wages and resources through raffles and by charging parents £3 per session and also relies on donations.
The money presented by Tesco will be used to pay the pre-school's rent for the full school year.
Tesco's multi-million pound store opened in North Burns on September 1.
