BLACKWELL Grange were singing in the rain when they beat Hartlepool 3 and 2 to lift the Clark Cup at Durham City on Saturday.

Having reached the final of the Durham County scratch competition for the first time in their history, Blackwell's team of captain Charlie Morrison, Stuart Santon, David Taylor, club champion Ross Jackson and James Turnbull kept their nerve to complete an excellent season, adding the trophy to promotion to Division Two of the Teesside Union.

Morrison, one of Blackwell's winners along with Jackson and Turnbull, said: "Just reaching the final was a great achievement for a club of our size and to win it is an amazing feeling. It has been a long, hard road to the final and we have needed a strong squad, with Matthew Cave, Peter Smith and Howard Jolly all playing vital roles along the way.

"I would also like to thank all those who supported us on Saturday. They kept us going when things got tough."
