GUISBOROUGH teenager Jonathan Cocker is celebrating a fantastic result in his first-ever Porsche Carrera Cup GB series after finishing fourth overall out of 18 drivers.

At Oulton Park last weekend, the 17-year-old started 11th and tenth on the grid for the sprint and feature races respectively. He fought back to finish tenth in the sprint race, but eighth on points.

In the feature race, Cocker managed to fight his way up to sixth position, but lost two places when a car spun in front of him. He finished eighth, but sixth on points and fourth overall in the championship.

Making his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup this season, Cocker has taken several podium finishes and made history in July when he was the youngest driver ever to compete in the prestigious Porsche Michelin Supercup, a support race to the British Grand Prix, when he was only 16.

Driving for the Thornaby-based Red Line Racing team, who finished second, Cocker is already making a big impression on the world of motor sport and secured a sponsorship deal with specialist Porsche dealer Autoclassica earlier this season.

Cocker began his career in last year's T-Cars Championship for 14 to 16-year-olds with nine podium finishes and fourth position overall.

He is hoping to continue his success next season and will again be racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

He said: "I'm really pleased with how well I did in this fantastic event, especially as it's my first season.

"It's been great experience and I hope next year I can learn from all this and finish in the top three."
