Wheatley Hill A kept up their remote chance of forcing a play-off for the League Championship when they recovered from losing the first frame at home to Brandon to take the remaining points.

Brian Graham gave relegation threatened Brandon a good start but then the Hill had wins from Alan Hall, Ronnie Peacock, Jack Wright and Dennis Clish.

Spennymoor A still look certainties for the title as they hold a five points advantage over Wheatley Hill A after they only dropped one point to the visiting Witton Gilbert, who now share the bottom spot in the First Division with Brandon. The visitors' only point came from Paul Nord, who put in a 40 break. The Moors winners were Paul Atkinson, John Wilson, Michael Pratt and Paul Biddle.

Newton Aycliffe held on to third place in the First Division with a home win which left the visiting Fishburn A still possible relegation candidates as they are only two points in front of the bottom two. Newton Aycliffe took the first three frames through Mark Howe, Billy Barrigan and Ron Hall whilst John Carter and Peter Davison rescued the visitors.

Sherburn Village landed themselves in serious relegation problems after they only took one point from their visit to Shotton Palms, where Peter McGowan was their only winner. This left Sherburn Village just one point ahead of the bottom two. The winners for the Palms were James Evans junior, John Armstrong, Paul Hickman and Dave Swindle, who made a 37 break.

Willington joined Sherburn Village, still in relegation problems despite their odd point home win over Newhouse, who twice were ahead. Paul Wright put the visitors ahead but Gordon Parkin levelled. John Maddox restored the Newhouse lead only to see Jeremy Martin equalise. In the decider Willington's Stan Bennett beat Ian Dinsdale.

The position in the Second Division is much clearer with the title going to either Meadowfield or Crowtrees, who share the top place with a nine points advantage. Crowtrees made up the one point deficit on Meadowfield when they whitewashed the visiting Stanley Central with wins from Sean Johnston, Peter Laverick, Keith McLauclan, Steve Armstrong and Sonny Hann.

Meadowfield dropped a vital point at Langley Park when Ray Coates potted the decisive black to beat Craig Hughes. Meadowfield took the remaining points through Martin Halliday, John Jackson, Stephen Hughes and Norman Smith.

At the bottom of the Second Division, Durham City are certain to be relegated despite winning in the decider at Crook Belle Vue, who are also in danger, but could benefit from possible penalties for breach of rules on Ferryhill. Durham City were never headed at Crook with Barry Stoddart taking the first frame. Derek Potts levelled the match only to see Michael Pratt restore the Durham lead. Harold Lomax equalised but then Durham's John Davies beat John Warriner in the decider.

Ferryhill were twice ahead of the visiting Wheatley Hill B but went down in the decider. Adrian Jones put the home side ahead but Dave Blyth levelled. Mark Wilson restored Ferryhill's lead but Jock Frost equalised. In the decider, Tony Ellison took the Hill to victory by beating Bernie Jones. Ferryhill then re-arranged their visit to Wheatley Hill for the match, which should have been played on 1 July but failed to turn up.

Spennymoor B, who at one time were title challengers, lost their fifth consecutive game when they went down by the odd point at Wingate. Dean Jones put the home side ahead but Micky Anderson and Gary Easen moved the Moors in front. Paul Harrison levelled the match and Jimmy Mason clinched the Wingate victory when he beat Alan Rouell in the decider.

The top of the Third Division remains the same as the top three teams all won for the loss of one point. Bearpark retained the top spot when they travelled to Tow Law B, whose only point came from Lee Stockdale. The visiting winners were Andy Donaldson, Ian Chamberlain, Alan Smith and Glen Morton. This keeps Bearpark one point ahead of Coundon.

Coundon entertained Hunwick and raced into a four points lead with wins from Graham Goulbourn, Frank Nicholson, Stuart Neill and Stephen Bennett. Barry Fleming prevented the whitewash when he took the final frame with a 38 break. This keeps Coundon one point ahead of new Durham.

Sacriston were the hosts to New Durham and took their only point when Alan Richardson won. The visiting winners were Thomas Cairns, Kevin Scullion, Neil Phillips and Gordon Bowes.

Tow Law A only collected one point from their trip to Leeholme A when Heppell Hodgson won. Lawrence Jones gave the home side a great start with a 35 break and was joined as point scorers by Anthony Forster, Ian North and Barry Shaw.

Fishburn B went tow up at home to Leeholme B with wins from the father and son pair of Winston and Jamie Hodgson. Mark Brown and Ray Gill pulled the visitors level but Alan Wilson took Fishburn to victory when he beat John Taylor in the decider.
