Tow Law Area League: Tow Law Rose and Crown recorded only their third victory of the season when they beat the visiting Cornsay Royal Oak in the deciding doubles.

Sonia Windsor and Ian Truby put the Oak ahead but the home side ran three in a row with wins from Dorothy Mowbray, John Campbell and Steve Morris. Colin Close levelled the match by winning the final singles. The first two doubles were shared but in the decider the home side's Dorothy Mowbray and John Campbell beat Colin Close and Sonia Windsor.

Esh McKennas held on to their top place in the table after they beat the visiting Newhouse Club by the odd point. Keith Liddle and Eric Rowlands put the visitors' ahead but the home side took the remaining four singles through Charlie Leigh, Joe Starr, Mark Davies and Allan Hennigan. McKennas clinched victory when Hennigan and Davies won their doubles.

McKennas now lead the table by two points from Billy Row Club, who are one point ahead of Stag's Head.

Crook League

Ithe second qualifying round there were two singles players and two doubles to go through to Finals Night from the matches played at Crook Mill House. In the singles Arthur Hope of Crook Belle Vue Club beat teammate, Roy Hoggarth, whilst Gerald Parkin of Crook Coach and Horse B went through after beating teammate, David Stephenson in the decider.

In the doubles Gary Trow and Paul Briddick of Willington Market beat their colleagues Syd Trow and Micky Toward, whilst Alan Bibby and Norman Slack of Crook Mill House beat Ian Moore and Paul Lauder of Willington Market.

Wilington League

After winning their first match of their first season in the league, Sunnybrow Brown Trout B failed to add to in when they went down by three points at the Victoria Club. The home side had singles wins from Arthur Moore, Colin Pratt, Ian breen and Julie Hall with Alan Richardson and Julie Hall adding a doubles point. Carol Hawkins was the only singles winner for the Trout with Andy Fitzpatrick and Ian Stoker adding a doubles point.

Hunwick Joiners Arms lead the table by three points from the Prospect Club, who are three ahead of Sunnybrow Brown Trout A.

Ithe top match of the week the third-placed Tow Law Dan's Castle B entertained second placed Newhouse Club and went down in the decider. The Castle opened out with a win from Angela Suddes but Graeme Thompson and Harry Dinsdale put Newhouse ahead. Anthony Lee levelled the match but then the visitors' went to victory when Steve Turner beat Lee Stevenson.

Tow Law Football Club lead the table by two points from Newhouse Club, who are two ahead of Dan's Castle B. The footballers beat the visiting Tow Law New Market A by the odd point.

The visitors took the first and last points through Bill Goodall and Terry Taylor, whilst the footballers success came with wins from Charlie McGee, Terry Ginty and Arthur Henderson.

Willington Cottles held on to their one point lead at the top of the table after they came back from a two points deficit at the Prospect Club to win the decider. The home side took the first two games through John Wood and Ces Atkinson but Cottles levelled with wins from Joe Bone and Gilly Spark. In the decider Cottles Jimmy Gallagher beat Simon Gray.

Willington Lion and Unicorn maintained the pace with Cottles B after they came through to win the decider against the visiting Willington Commercial. Campbell Hawkins put the visitors ahead but Paul Williams equalised.

Ric Chwieseni restored the visiting lead but Alan Lee levelled. In the decider Stan Lee took the home side to victory by beating Dessie Ayre.
