THE rebuilding of the North-East economy will come under the spotlight at a conference next month.

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) holds a regeneration conference in Tyneside and Amsterdam on October 8 and 9.

It will examine the future rejuvenation of the region and look at what property professionals can learn from European experts.

The first part of the conference will be held on the DFDS Seaways cruise ferry Queen of Scandinavia, docked at North Shields.

Delegates travel to Holland for the second part of the conference, hosted by the International Institute for the Urban Environment (IIUE) in Amsterdam.

Simon Murray, chairman of RICS North East, said: "Continuing regeneration projects will be central to the success of the North-East, playing a crucial role in the way we live, work and enjoy ourselves.

"The speakers we have secured can give us an update on the ambitious plans there are for the region and it will be a fascinating insight into the future of the region for all property professionals, whether in the private or public sectors."

Speakers at the Tyneside event will include John Lowther, of the Tees Valley Partnership, John Rundle, Director of Europe at Government Office for the North East, and Bob Ward, from the Durham Sub Regional Partnership
