In the Thursday 4.30pm men's pairs two really good games finished all square.

In a remarkable game Arnold Bryson and Mort Mooney were leading 12-1 at the halfway stage then conceded eight shots overs the next three ends to Ted Scotter and Brian Metcalf. Arnold and Mort recovered to lead by 15-9 then amazingly lost a seven to stare defeat in the face. They clinched a single at the last to finish on a draw 16-16.

In the same league Maurice Simpson and John Appleton looked likely winners while leading 15-8, but failed to score again and finished all level at 15-15 against Chris Robson and Derek Towers.

Harold Robinson and Ken Lamb came really good in the second half of their game. They were only two shots ahead of Frank Wattam and Colin Hall going into the 10th end. A draw was not for them, though. Ken and Harold clinched a 2-5-4 and two singles to give them a decisive 21-8 victory.

Kitty Robinson, Mary Armstrong and skip Maureen Whitton scored four shots in the first two ends, but lost the next four ends and with it eight shots against Chris Pearson, Olwyn Kitchen and skip Joyce Weston.

However, the best was yet to come from the Whitton trio which so far remained unbeaten in a quality league.

Impressively they secured 17 shots in seven ends while losing just two singles to celebrate a 21-10 victory collecting two more league championship points.

Joan Hamer, Rene Gordon and Ann Anderson continued to impressive in their chase for honours scoring ten shots to one in the second half of their game against Doreen Davison, Margaret Marshall and skip June Gibbs to win well by 16-10 and also remain unbeaten.

Ann Milner, Edith Dunn and skip Rewcastle always looked winners while going into an 8-2 early lead against Cath Sowerby, Pauline Baines and skip Norma Cooper. They won five of their last six ends to secure a clear victory by 16-4 to creep up the ladies triples table. Joan Winter, Joyce Stephenson and skip Marjorie Bousfield came from behind to level at 9-9 against Olive Harris, Eileen Mitchell and skip Ann Simpson who went on to win a very keen game by 12-10.

One of the best games of the session saw Dorothy Donald, Audrey Cairns and skip Sadie Lynch finish all square 13-13 against Jean Peacock, Marjorie Ormerod and Val Boyce.

George Bearpark and Dennis Hodgson finished with a three to clinch a 14-8 victory against Harry Jackson, Eddie Pattison in the Monday 6.30pm men's pairs.

In the Morrisons Thursday 10.30am men's triples George Gent, George Young and skip Tom Horner lost a four and a three to go one shot adrift at 12.13 against George Ripley, Roger Tomlinson and Jack Robinson.

Tom's team won five of the last six ends including a four and a three to clinch a good game by 21-15.

Harry Marshall, Jim Aldred and skip Alan Stephenson started with a five and took up a 13-2 lead. They allowed their opponents no more than five singles to win 17-5.

Other scores included: J Robinson 15, M Curran 9; W Poulton 7, R Thorton 26; H Bromfield 10, D Fudge 18; H Johnson 28, J Kidd 6; G Lamb 11, L Weston 14.

Arthur Duff, Tom Evans, Derek Le Mare and skip Tom Horner were all level on 12-12 with two ends to go. They secured a one and a three to finish with a 16-12 victory against K Hird, J Pybus, L Green and K McIntosh in the popular veterans Monday morning fours.

Mike Curran, Bob Howells, Arthur McCormick and Wilf O'Neill had a confident and clear victory over Ray Thornton, Eric Schaub, George Brace and John Wright finishing strongly with four threes in the second half and a 21-8 victory.
