A business park which could create up to 10,000 jobs in the region is waiting for the go-ahead.

The next phase of the development, at Newcastle Great Park (NGP), is expected to attract investors from the business world.

The park will include corporate headquarters - it is anticipated that more than 40 per cent of Newcastle's new jobs during the next ten years will be located on NGP.

The project has already attracted high levels of interest, particularly as the £60m headquarters for international software firm Sage nears completion.

The plan for the business park, which has easy access to the A1, the city centre and Newcastle International Airport, is under discussion between the developers, Taylor Woodrow and Persimmon, and Newcastle City Council, alongside further residential and commercial developments.

John Homes, project director of NGP, said the park would be instrumental in the continuing regeneration of the North-East.

"We are very excited by the proposals, as this has to be one of the best economic development opportunities that the North-East has known for decades.

"We will be delivering totally flexible accommodation in order to attract small and medium enterprises, right through to major corporate end-users," he said.

"Signing up Sage to locate their headquarters on NGP was a major coup for the developers and Newcastle City Council. It is one of the biggest private sector investments in the country and has made a very significant architectural statement on NGP."
