YOUNG people in the Darlington area will get the chance to find out more about their council as part of Local Democracy Week next week.

The aim of this year's event, from Monday to Saturday, is to help pupils learn more about the work of councils.

Members of Darlington Borough Council's democratic services and youth participation teams will visit secondary schools to take part in assemblies and workshops.

The Connexions Bus, a meeting and information point for young people, will also be visiting schools as part of the campaign.

Youth centres in the borough are being invited to take part in helping to promote the week-long event.

Information about the events can be found on the young residents' section of Darlington council's website, www.darlington.gov.uk.

Schools wanting further information can call Vikki Newman on (01325) 388859.
