Lumley Ladies: LUMLEY maintained their 100 per cent record in the Northern Regional Women's League Division Two with an 11-0 victory at Northallerton Academy.

Following the disappointment of the narrow FA Cup defeat at neighbours Chester-le-Street, the unbeaten division one leaders, a week earlier, a return to winning ways never looked in doubt on Sunday.

Six players got on the score sheet, including outstanding 14-year-old prospects Jemma Dinning and Catherine Hughes, but pride of place again went to hot-shot Sarah Price, who notched a double hat-trick.

It took 18-year-old "Pricey" to an impressive early season tally of 24 league and cup goals, despite having also played at least half a game between the posts as a stand-in keeper so far this term.

l Lumley Under-14s easily won through to the second round of the Tyne-Tees League Challenge Cup with an 8-0 home victory over Killingworth at Chester-le-Street Riverside, but the Under-13s, finalists last season, made a first round exit with an agonising 4-3 extra-time defeat in their Challenge Cup-tie, at Stockton West End.

Chester-le-Street

The Cestrians got back to league action against bottom club Boldon and came away with the points in a match that was hardly a classic. Played on a small pitch in windy conditions, free flowing football was rarely seen but it was Chester who scored early on, Rachel Furness shooting though a crowded goalmouth.

Natalie Gutteridge made it two and captain Vikki Ryder shot home to make it three before Boldon got one back with a sweetly struck shot over Steph Barraclough. Chester were well on top and Laura Darmody made it 4-1 at half time.

With the wind at their backs in the second half it was one-way traffic and Rachel Furness scored directly from a corner before Vikki Ryder latched on to Ashley Scott's throw-in to make it 6-1, shooting past a helpless Boldon keeper. Captain Ryder sealed her hat-trick with goal number seven and many more chances went begging before the end.

This weekend the first team are away to Blyth Spartans, 2pm, all are welcome.

Durham County Council Girls Mini League

The newly-formed League kicked off for the first time last Saturday at two venues, Chester-le-Street Riverside and East Durham & Houghall College, Peterlee, and were a resounding success.

At Chester-le-Street the girls under-14s and under-16s opened with Cramlington under-14s beating South Durham Royals 3-2 in an excellent match, while in the under-16s Boldon defeated Rutherford 9-1.

The under-10s and under-12s at Peterlee attracted a large number of spectators. Durham FA secretary John Topping, who opened the proceedings with Durham County Council chairman Alan Fenwick, said, "the setting at Peterlee was perfect with first class facilities available. The venture has already proved worthwhile by the sight of so many young girls with their parents and grandparents watching and really enjoying themselves."

There are 12 teams in each league, and each team will play two 30 minute games each Saturday over the next 11 weeks.

Norton & Stockton Ancients

Darlington Simply Lasses went ahead in the first ten minutes against Norton Under-12 and put on the pressure but Norton dug in and started to win the tackles and pass the ball. Norton's equaliser came from Olivier Inman and then Norton began to play. Norton took their lead from a well taken goal from Sarah Proctor and started to look the better team.

Norton scored again with another goal from Olivier Inman and looked comfortable in defence. Leanne Mulligan and Kate McGuire worked hard in the middle of the park and cut out Darlington's danger players to provide through balls to Olivier Inman and Sarah Proctor. Olivier Moody controlled the back line and even got forward to score a goal of her own.

Final score was 5-2 and was a good result considering Norton had their goalkeeper missing with a broken wrist and Elly Wombwell filled in admirably.
