A SOLICITOR'S skill on the golfing green has earned him the Old Dunelmian Society's golf trophy.

Kenneth Howe, a Chester-le-Street solicitor and deputy North Durham Coroner, recently won the Old Dunelmian Society's Annual Golf Trophy.

The competition took place at Ramside Hall Golf Course, near Durham, and afterwards the silver Willan Bowl was presented to Mr Howe at a formal dinner, held at Ramside Hall Hotel.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old golfer is celebrating a win with her fellow team-mates. Emily Lowther, representing Roseberry Grange Golf Club of Chester-le-Street with Graham Stephenson, won the County Durham Mixed Foursome Golf Tournament held at Heworth Golf Club near Gateshead.

The pair defeated Ryton Golf Club by one hole in the final to claim the trophy, the first county competition to be won by the Roseberry Grange Club.

The contest attracted entries from more than 50 County Durham clubs.
