PEOPLE in Derwentside can get to grips with the world of computers on courses run at Consett Library.
The library is running the sessions with Derwentside College to help people to get the most out of computers and the internet.
Library manager Kay Winter said: "We have many people of all ages who already use the library's computers to book holidays, contact friends or for homework.
"But there are many more who are still nervous about taking that first step so it's great that the college can help out." People can book computer sessions using their library card.
The library also has a volunteer who runs a drop-in session on Tuesday afternoons which is proving so popular that people queue up to guarantee they get a place.
One computer is set up as a community information point as part of a district-wide project that uses the internet to access local information.
Project worker Gail Pilkington is on hand to give help to users each Friday afternoon.
A family history drop-in course is also running on the last Friday of each month with local volunteer John Milburn.
More information about the computer courses is available from the library by calling (01207) 503606.
