Newfit Services Willington: Willington Club pulled off a good away victory over Willington Lion and Unicorn with a five points success.

The home side shared the singles when they had wins from Dave Hawkins, Arthur Goldsborough and Michael Pickering, whilst the Club replied with wins from Colin Walker, Scott Little and Stephen Hutchinson. At this point the visitors took over and had doubles wins from Stephen Hutchinson with Scott Little, Michael Irwin with Joe Davies and Joe Blakey with Donald Young to add to the team game.

Sunnybrow Brown Trout A opened out an eight points gap at the top of the table with Willington Cottles, who have a match in hand, and the Prospect Club sharing second place, a point ahead of Hunwick Joiners Arms.

Tow Law Coors

Tow Law New Market A came very close to their second defeat of the season when they just edged through at Hamsteels Inn by the odd point. The Market opened by taking the two trebles but then Alan Hird and Robert Hird both won for the home side. The remaining singles went to the visitors with wins from David Dixon, Colin Armstrong, Bob McFadden and John Parkin. However Hamsteels made a remarkable recovery to take all three doubles and just loose by the odd point.

Newhouse Club strengthened their position at the top of the tale when they only dropped one point on their visit to Tow Law New Market B, who had landlord, Phil Spencer their star when he took their only point in the singles. The Newhouse winners were Brian Atkins, Bill Jones, Dave Thornton, Steve Turner and Steve Wilkie. Newhouse Club now lead the league by six points with Billy Row Club in second place, five points ahead of Tow Law New Market A, who have two matches in hand.

Crook Ladies League

Crook Jelly's Bar B slipped to their third defeat of the season when they lost by five points at Crook Travellers Rest. This allowed the unbeaten Crook Queen's Head A to open up a thirteen points lead at the top with the Victoria Club, who were also beaten, moving within fifteen points of Jelly's with a match in hand. The Travellers moved up two points behind the Victoria.

The Travellers Rest had a great run in the singles where Karen Moses, Diane Nesbitt, Ann Varley, Dorothy Storey and Dorothy Taylor won their games with only June Barron replying for Jelly's B. The visitors closed the gap by taking two of the three doubles but the Travellers finished in style by winning the team game.

The leading individual scorers were Dawn Nixon with 131 for the Queen's Head A and Sarah France-Sergeant 123, Janet Kitson 121 and Margaret Craggs 120 for the North Point.

Byers Green Club won the local derby against the visiting Byers Green Royal Oak by three points to go six points clear at the top of the table. Crook Bar 56 and Crook Olde Horse Shoe share the second place, five points ahead of Crook Royal Sun.

Johnson Memorial

The final of this years competition in memory of two dedicated and very popular darts players from Crook produced a very tight finish in the deciding leg, with Crook RAFA Club A beating Crook Cricket Club.

In the semi-finals Crook Travellers Rest went down to Crook Cricket Club when Barbara Smith beat Diane Nesbitt in the decider, whilst Crook RAFA A only dropped one point to the Crook RAFA C team.

In the Final, Crook Cricket Club got away to a good start by winning the team game. In the doubles the RAFA took the first when Betty Chapman and Janice Warriner beat Dorothy Renwick and Barbara Smith, whilst the Cricket Club took the second when Shelley Renwick and Dawn Leonard beat Jillian Scott and Jackie Clark.

In the singles, Jancie Warriner of the RAFA Club beat Dawn Leonard; Jackie Clark of the RAFA lost to Dorothy Renwick; Betty Chapman of the RAFA beat Shelley Renwick to set up the nail-biting decider.

In this last game, Jillian Scott of the RAFA team was first to the double but missed, this allowed Barbara Smith in with a chance at double tops but when she missed Jillian stepped in to clinch victory.

Weardale Ladies League

Mill Race increased their lead at the top to six points with a big win against Golden Lion A. Second side Golden Lion B could only draw and Hare and Hounds, Black Lion A and Blue Bell B are close behind.
