Chester-le-Street Town: Chris Laws took his tally to 20 goals this season when he hit five goals in last weekend's 10-1 demolition of former League Champions, Whitley Bay.

Laws, who had just returned from a trial spell at Manchester City, helped the Cestrians to bounce back in fine style from being knocked out of the Durham County Cup by Jarrow St. Bedes, less than four days after they had beaten Port Vale 5-3 in the second round proper of the FA Youth Cup.

The game was dominated by Chester-le-Street from start to finish but it took them 20 minutes to get going on a difficult Moor Park pitch. Once Martin Urwin scrambled the ball home from a corner there was only going to be one winner. Laws (2) and Urwin again meant Chester went in 4-0 ahead at the break - also having rattled the woodwork on four occasions.

The best move of the game came in the 46th minute when Steven Richardson's clever ball into the inside right channel was picked up by Chris Laws who pulled the ball back superbly for Urwin to make it five. David Curry then handled in his own box to enable Nicholson to pull a goal back from the penalty spot for Whitley Bay only for Urwin to immediately make it 6-1. Young substitute Philip Wadge volleyed a stunning seventh goal with his first touch before Laws hit the last three goals of the match to take his personally tally to five.

Juniors Manager Andrew Muxworthy said: "We took control very early on and the players maintained a good performance level throughout.

"We were more assertive and less aggressive than in the previous match and pleasingly the senior players in the team took greater responsibility. All the lads deserves credit because Whitley Bay are not a bad side and actually played some very good football for long spells.

"All my players are now clear about where they stand and we can go forward with the Championship as our number one aim."

Chester-le-Street: Connell, G Draper, R Draper (captain), Glazinski, Jones, Curry, Watson (Wadge 52), Richardson, Laws, Urwin, Browne. Subs not used: Houghton, Clayton, Nevins.

Stockton Town

Stockton Under-12s struggled in their game against Redcar with a few players under the weather.

But to Redcar's credit they looked sharp and in the opening 15 minutes put a lot of pressure on Stockton. From this pressure came a break in the form of Ross Ogleby who moved like Thierry Henry as the ball was cleared he closed down Redcar's back four so quick that he stole the ball and using his pace left everyone for dead to slot the ball under the keeper.

Stockton were glad for half time to regroup and make a few changes. On the 37 minutes Redcar were rewarded with an equiliser from a head tennis match in the box which looped over Stockton's keeper.

As games go two minutes later a throw-in level with Redcar's box was met by man of the match Adam Maplesden who must have been watching the Rugby World Cup because he put the ball up and under for Scott Hillerby to run in and head the winner.

Redcar still came forward and could have got something out of this if Craig Deighton hadn't been aware to stop a one on one by his speed and determination.

The Stockton Town Under-10s in Division Three enjoyed a well deserved victory over Bishop Auckland St. Marys B. The first half was dominated by Stockton however, they were unable to find the net despite several close efforts. The deadlock was broken when Bishops defence were unable to react to a long range effort from Higgins. Within minutes the same player almost doubled the score however was thwarted by the crossbar.

The second half saw the Bishops team grow in confidence however a commanding display from Stockton keeper Craven ensured that any opportunities were quickly snuffed out.

Stockton captain Dowson, who is showing some excellent form of late, was outstanding. Man of the match for the home team was shared between Dowson and Higgins.

The Stockton Town Under-10s in Division One recorded their second league win of the season against a spirited Fishburn Boys side who made them work for the points right up to the final whistle. Stockton started very brightly and Fishburn goalkeeper Tom Robert-Shaw was called into early action with fine saves from Andrew McLaren and Ben Thacker. However Fishburn pushed Stockton back and Alex Cantwell made a fine run before Luke Conroy made a saving tackle. Stockton were struggling to put passes together but Jamie Blyth broke clear of the Fishburn defence and only a fine tackle from Fishburn man of the match Lewis Nicholson stopped Blyth from bearing down on goal. From the resulting corner a fine volley from home captain Jak Edwards went inches wide. Into the second half and Fishburn were coming more into the game Luke Maddison and Paul Hubbard both had efforts saved by Jack Cooper in the Stockton goal. The game was seemingly heading for a goalless draw, with both defences playing well but Stockton produced the winning goal five minutes from the end, as Blyth broke free down the right , his shot was superbly saved by the Fishburn keeper , only for the ball to roll to Adam Flewker who slammed the ball into the net. Fishburn threw players forward searching for a late equaliser however Stockton held out for a welcome home win.

But in a frenetic finale Spraire scored three times through Mike Duffy, Martin Sturgeon and John McKay.
