ROSS TURNBULL has not ruled out a return to Darlington after turning out for the England Under-20s in the World Youth Championships.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper made an impressive League debut when he kept a clean sheet against Lincoln City last weekend.

But his one month loan deal from North-East Premiership neighbours Middlesbrough had to be cut short when he was called up by national team coach Les Reed for the Championships in Dubai.

Turnbull meets up with the rest of the England squad today before flying out to the United Arab Emirates tomorrow afternoon until December 6 at the earliest.

But the highly-rated Boro shot-stopper has not ruled out a return to the Reynolds Arena after enjoying his two-day stay with David Hodgson's men.

"I liked it there. It was just a shame it was only for one game," said Turnbull, who is joined in the England squad by Boro teammate Andrew Taylor.

" I was a bit nervous at first when I played for Darlington but the longer the game went on the more confident I became.

"It was unbelievable when I got called up for England. I was really excited about signing for Darlington on loan and then bang, I got called up. It just came at the wrong time, although it's fantastic to get called up for your country.

"I would have liked to have stayed at Darlington for a bit longer and played a few more games. It would have been good for my experience.

"There's a chance I could go back to Darlington, it depends on how long the competition goes on and how long Andy Collett is out injured."

With Collett ruled out with a punctured lung, Michael Price is set for a recall to the Darlington starting line-up for the long trip to Swansea City tomorrow after being dropped for the Lincoln match.

Hodgson, who has ruled out making any late additions to his squad, hopes Price makes the most of his recall.

He said: "Michael has shown an excellent attitude and he has another chance to shine."

Turnbull, meanwhile, is hoping to play some part for England in the opening group stage in Dubai.

The Bishop Auckland-born youngster is hoping to oust Preston keeper Andrew Lonergan and play in at least one game - against Japan (Nov 29), Egypt (Dec 2) or Colombia (Dec 5).

If England reach the final (Dec 19) Turnbull will not return to England until the week before Christmas.

He is also satisfied with the way things are going at Boro, where he is held in high regard by goalkeeping coach Paul Barron.

"They have told me to just keep going, keep progressing," said Turnbull, who was watched by Barron against Lincoln. "They seem to be happy with me and I am pleased with that."
