Gt Ayton v Loftus Ath

The visitors won the ball well in midfield to give them the edge in a goalless first half. Gt Ayton opened the second half strongly, Cole in the Loftus goal had to be alert to stop Ripley from scoring an early goal, then anorther swift move by Murray set up Ripley again, only for Cole to save the shot and push the ball round the post. Ayton's best chance came when Murray provided the perfect pass for Ripley to bear down on goal but once again Cole was quick off his line to save at Ripley's feet. Loftus broke the deadlock, a free kick from Peel was headed back across the Ayton goal for McMillan to loop the ball over a stranded Sonley in the Ayton goal. There followed a good spell of attacking football from Loftus before Ayton found the equaliser after Busby was fouled on the edge of the area. The resulting free kick from Leng was played across the Loftus goal and found the net at the far post. Supersub, Davey, came on for the final stages of the game but on this occasion could not provide Ayton with a winning goal.

Grosmont v Stakesby Arms

Despite the muddy conditiions this match was played in good spirit. After 20 minutes of even play Grosmont took the lead when Duck played the ball through for Walker, who side footed into the net from 10 yards.Ten minutes later Duck himself netted the second with a curling shot from 18 yards giving Grosmont the advantage at the break. Stakesby battled hard in the second half but to no avail, despite creating chances and hitting the cross bar, Walker then latched on to a through ball and scored his second, Grosmont's third. Grosmont then finished the match with a bizarre goal when a free kick just outside the box hit Lever on the knee and found it's way into the net.

Highland Laddie v Black Swan

Laddie began to push forward and on 30 minutes Lawther had a great chance but Swan keeper, Butler, made a great save. Scott, Clarke and Telford all created chances to take Swan into the lead but none were converted. Lawther again got through for Laddie but this time his shot went wide, then on the stroke of half time a cross from Daynes saw Dickinson head the ball round the Swan keeper to give Laddie a slender lead. With the wind advantage in the second half Laddie dominated the play, Neesam and Burns pressing forward. Several chances went begging before Swan had a chance to equalise, Davir firing in a shot which was deflected wide. Laddie continued to have the upper edge, Swan only posing an occasional threat, but no more goals were forthcoming. Final score 1-0.

Hinderwell v Boosbeck Utd

Hinderwell extended their unbeaten league run to five games with a battling display against a strong Boosbeck side. Injuries had forced Hinderwell to make some changes, Robinson called in as centre half and Khawaja moving to full back. These changes did not deter Hinderwell from taking an early lead through Hicks, who rose to head home a Beckham like cross from James. Chances to extend the lead went begging until Jones wriggled his way through the Boosbeck defence and finished emphatically with a low drive. Boosbeck played three up front in the second half, taking the game to Hinderwell and were rewarded when a long clearance was coolly slotted home by Al-Dick to reduce the arrears. However, the Hinderwell defence, superbly marshalled by Sussons, held firm against tough Boosbeck pressure to take all three points. Hinderwell's last victory against Boosbeck was back in 1967 in the very first competetive match played at the Croft.

Lealholm v Annandale Hotel

Lealholm began shakily, two early chances from Crooks both going wide. Annadale's two forwards both caused the home team a lot of problems, creating chances but failing to convert. Robinson thought he had given Lealholm the lead just before half time but a dubious offside decision led to his goal being disallowed. Within 20 seconds of the second half Annandale had taken the lead Dewing finishing well. This seemed to spur Lealholm into action and had a bit of luck when a welham free kick was deflected into the net off Heathcock. The home side then lost a bit of momentum and could have been 3 -1 down but for keeper Thompson making 2 crucial saves from the edge of his area. The game seemed to be heading for a draw but in the closing minutes a Welham cross from the left found Butler who headed in from close range to give Lealholm the points.

Staithes Ath v Lingdale Tavern

As the top teams met for the first time this season, Staithes were looking to close the gap on leaders Lingdale. Tavern, having to put the disappointment of the North Riding Cup defeat behind them, and with key players missing through injury, started well with Jones and Calvert working hard in midfield, making chances for Dane and Shane Breckon up front. Staithes defenders, Scollett and Libbey held firm for a while but Tavern took the lead when Dane Breckon won the balll on the half way line and ran on to play the ball to Shane Breckon, who scored from close range. Staithes midfielders, Ward and Shane Gibson began to control the game for a spell just before half time but Ashbridge and Hood in the Tavern defence held firm. Just five minutes into the second half Lingdale made it 2 - 0 when Ball played played Shane breckon in, on the edge of the box, his clever right foot chip beating both the defence and the Staithes keeper. Staithes pulled a goal back on the hour through Dale headed back across goal for Smith to head home unchallenged. Lingdale restored their two goal advantage, a good runfrom Calvert led to a Ball shot which rebounded off the crossbar to Calvert for him to score. With 20 minutes left Gibson and Smith put Dale through in an an attempt to put Staithes back into the game but a well timed tackle in the box by Brown allowed Lingdale to break resulting in a close range goal from Ball.
