Division One, Bedale FC 4, Thornaby FC 1: Bedale, with two straight wins behind them, pulled of the shock of the day when they entertained table topping Thornaby.

The opening half hour was very evenly contested before the home side shocked the visitors took the lead from an unlikely source, Steven Anderson, this remained the only goal of the first half, twenty five minutes into the second half Thornaby drew level when Danny Jones with his 12th of the season made it 1-1, just when you would expect the League Leaders to press forward looking for a winner, Bedale took the lead again when Paul Orton scored to make it 2-1 in the 75th minute, Nigel Binks then gave the home side a 3-1 lead before Johnny Sinclair secured the shock result of the day when he made it 4-1 in the 87th minute.

Carlin How 5, Stokesley SC 1

Carlin How knocked out of the County Cup by second division Mavericks in the first round back in October, made their extra match this weekend pay dividends as while Thornaby the leaders were slipping to a surprise defeat at Bedale, Grangetown, Thornaby Youth Club and Hartlepool were on cup duty, Carlin How leapt them all into second place after a revenge win over Stokesley who back in late September pulled of a 2-1 victory against today's hosts. Carlin How were always in control and took a 7th minute lead when Danny Wilkinson let fly with a twenty yarder that hit the crossbar onto keeper Ian Mark's back and into the net. Two minutes later Carlin How were 2-0 ahead when a Steve Starsmore corner was flicked under the diving keeper by Kevin Hampton, three minutes later a Kevin Hampton cross found Martin Say who was fouled on the edge of the box and from the resulting free kick Starsmore stroked the free kick into the bottom corner to make it 3-0, twelve minutes later another free kick from Starsmore after Martin Say was again fouled, this time thirty yards out, gave the keeper no chance and Starsmore second of the match ad 13th of the season sent Carlin How in at half time 4-0 in the lead. In the second half Stokesley pushed forward and a slip in the 56th minute by Carlin How's Phil Peggs gave recent transfer signing from Bedale, Sam Vernalls a goal scoring debut, the visitors now had their tails up with Vernalls and James Middleditch causing problems for the Carlin How defence but the introduction of Carlin How's new signing Dean Moore paid dividends as he scored to make it 5-1 and all three points and second place in the table level on points with Thornaby, but having played a game less.

Fishburn Park 2, SMG Redstripes 0

Whitby side Fishburn Park secured their first double of the season when they entertained Billingham side SMG Redstripes, when the team had met at Billingham Fishburn won 2-0, they were put on the road to another 2-0 victory in the 27th minute when Lee Found headed home a Duncan Marson cross, the remainder of the game was very even and Fishburn took a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute through Mike Young to put the game beyond the Billingham visitors.

Division Two

Dormans FC 2, Whinney Banks 0

Dormans take a six point lead at the top of the second division, they completed the double over visitors Whinney Banks, while second placed Richmond Maverick pulled of a great win over Rowntrees in the County Cup. Dormans were well match by their lower placed visitors and after a goalless first half Paul Burns gave Dormans a 77th minute lead and with Whinney Banks pressing forward they snatched an important second goal five minutes before the final whistle to secure the points against a battling Whinney Banks.

Teesside Ath 0, Teesside Link 1

Redcar side Teesside Athletic entertained Thornaby side Teesside Link who started the brightest and were well on top for the first twenty five minutes, Athletic then got back into the game and almost took the lead when a good run by Steven Dotchin down the right saw his chip the Link keeper only for a defender to come round the back and clear of the line and the match remained 0-0 going into the half time break. In the second half the match was very evenly matched with very few clear cup chances but with a slight advantage of the wind the visitors took the lead on the hour when Stuart Jackson found himself clear at the back post, he brought the ball down before coolly finishing with his 6th of the season. The Redcar side pressed forward but were unable to even matters with no one able to pull a goal back and secure a point.

North Riding County Cup 2nd round

Richmond Mavericks 5, Rowntrees 2

Richmond Maverick who are slipping behind second division leaders Dormans, pulled of a great result in the County Cup, when they entertained York side Nestl Rowntrees. The Mavericks took a 16th minute lead through Craig Lovell who turned on a sixpence and shot home from close range, three minutes later Wayne Gredziak doubled the Mavericks lead, but three minutes before half time Rowntrees pulled it back to 2-1 when Paul West headed home unmarked from a corner, but a minute later Andrew Mollitt scored with a strike from eighteen yards to give the Mavericks a 3-1 half time lead. Five minutes into the second half a good build up by the Mavericks resulted in Gredziak cheekily back healing into the Rowntrees net to make it 4-1, but on the hour Rowntrees struck back to make 4-2 when confusion in the Maverick area ended with Andrew Shipley scoring an own goal, but nine minutes later Gredziak secured his hat trick and a place in the last eight for his team when he made it a final score of 5-2.

Pickering Town 0, BEADS FC 1

BEADS FC had a long trip to Pickering Town and after an evenly contested first half the match remained goalless, in the second half the Middlesbrough side were getting used to the large pitch and in the 70th the match turned the visitors way when Paul Chamberlin beat the Pickering defence but was upended by the Pickering keeper on the edge of the box, the keeper was sent off and from the resulting free kick Andy Bowman curled the ball round the wall into the top right hand corner to give the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead. The visitors then got well on top of the ten men home side and in one incident Bowman broke through and with the advancing relief keeper advancing on him, he chipped the ball from 35 yards out over his head but could only watch as the ball bounced in the Pickering penalty area and bounced over the bar of the goal.

Nunthorpe Ath 2, Richmond Town 3

Nunthorpe Athletic crashed out of the County Cup in the only all Teesside League clash when they entertained Richmond Town who took the lead in the 30th minute through Adam Emson, Nunthorpe drew level on the hour through Simon O'Shea but ten minutes later Richmond regained their one goal advantage when Carl Tate scored, they then increased their lead to 3-1 in the 89th minute when Richard Thompson looked to have sealed a Richmond win, but a late Daniel Mohan penalty made it 3-2, the match ended in controversial circumstances when Nunthorpe were convinced they had drawn level when Scott Robson scored, but an assistant referees flag had disallowed the goal judging the ball had gone out and then come back into play and Richmond were through to the last eight that will be played in January 2004.

Grangetown BC 4, Edgehill Mere 2

Grangetown Boys Club had a stern test in their bid to retain the North Riding County Cup when they entertained Scarborough side Edgehill. The home side got of to a great start when Ian McGowan scored after only seven minutes, Mark Ward doubled the lead in the 30th minute and 2-0 remained the half time score. Five minutes into the second half McGowan made it 3-1 with his second of the match, but the visitors gave themselves a glimmer of hope when they pulled it back to 3-1 from the penalty spot in the 80th minute, but Michael Meggison just about secured the holders a berth in the quarter-finals in the 84th minute, but Edgehill pulled a second back to make it a more respectable 4-2 score line with two minutes remaining.

Rydale Sports Club 0, Mack. Park 1

Redcar side Mackinlay Park progressed to the last eight of the competition after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Rydale Sports Club, Khalide Mazfari scoring the only goal of the game to ease his team into the quarter finals.

Thornaby YC 0, Stok. SC (Wear) 1

Thornaby Youth Club who's good run of form had seen them move into second in the 1st Division were entertaining Wearside League side Stokesley Sports Club, the Youth Club started of the brightest and were pushing forward from the kick off, but for all their early dominance they failed to create any clear cut chances and in the 26th minute the visitors took advantage of poor defending by the home side resulted in Richard Ord pounced to flick the bal past the advancing goalkeeper and defender to make it 1-0, nine minutes later a hopeful ball from the right wing hit the Youth Club's Darren Humphries and trickled into the goal. In the second half the Youth Club again pressed forward and went close with one good chance by Darren Fixter was well saved by the Stokesley keeper to put any hope of a Thornaby fight back.

Durham Trophy first round

D'ton SRM 0, Brandon Pr. Bishop 5

Darlington Simpson Rolling Mills crashed out of the first round of the Durham Trophy at the hands of Brandon Prince Bishop who were narrowly beaten by first division Hartlepool in last weeks Washington Old Peoples Trophy.

Hartlepool FC 3, Chopwell Top Club 2

Hartlepool FC progressed to the last eight of the Durham Trophy after a tight victory over visitors Chopwell Top Club, Ian Davies gave Hartlepool a 4th minute lead after receiving a pass from Neil Gutridge, Chopwell drew level in the 10th minute but two minutes later a Gutridge corner was headed home by Dave Lubb, the home side were on top and should have taken a 3-1 lead through John Rose in the 35th minute into the half time lead. Ten minutes into the second half Chopwell drew back but a brilliant run by Mark Rutherford saw a Chopwell player put through his own goal to secure a last eight berth for Hartlepool.

South Shields S'side 7, D'ton Albion 3

Darlington Albion also crashed out of the Durham Trophy by South Shields Simonside who raced into a 3-0 lead before Adrian Weston pulled a goal back but the home side took a 4-1 half time lead. In the second half both side traded goals with Weston and Gavin Bell on target for the Albion, but the South Shields side scored three more times to make it a 7-3 final score line.

Billingham Wndrs 3, Chester le St. 4

Billingham Wanderers bowed out of the Durham Trophy after a ding dong battle with visitors Chester Le Street Whitehall's who took a 3rd minute lead through Vernon, the visitors then took a 2-0 lead after six minutes but David Philips struck in the 10th and 28th minute to pull it back to 2-2 and then Todd gave the visitors a slender 3-2 lead. In the second half the home side pushed forward but fell 4-2 behind when Smith scored in the 65th minute, Jonathan Stewart then made it 4-3 in the 80th minute and despite a last minute bombardment from the home side they bowed out after a narrow 4-3 defeat.
