MASONS Arms won the battle of the Masons with a thumping 10-0 win over their namesakes United.

Striker Gary Dixon bagged five goals to help his side on to a convincing win that saw them leapfrog North Briton and into second in the Second Division table.

Midfielder Justin Fox also grabbed two and the man-of-the-match award for his performance after linking up well with right-back Andrew Elliott, who also bagged a brace. Striker Stephen Fothergill notched the other.

"Just the result we've been looking for," said Arms' Secretary John Booth. "We've been playing quite well recently without scoring many goals. But United have caught us on a good day when the goals have gone in. We were at them from the off and dominated throughout and I'm delighted with the performance."

Elsewhere in the Second Division, Belvedere went top of the division after beating Boot & Shoe 4-0 thanks to goals by Lee Nixon (2), Tim Hutchinson and Phil "unlikely to score, but did" Price.

North Briton, who were previously top, were beaten 5-3 at Victoria, while Hunwick won 3-1 at Eldon Arms.

Middlestone Moor also bagged three points with a 2-1 win at Shildon Athletic. Davey Parker and Gary Robinson scored Middlestone's goals, Keith Kavanagh Athletic's.

In Division One, Tudhoe United performed a miraculous recovery after trailing 4-3 and having a man sent off.

United took a two-goal lead at Beehive before the home side pulled it back and then went in front before the break.

But a goal glut for Tudhoe saw them run out eventual winners in an extraordinary game - as if it was Sunday morning football.

Christian Schofield scored four goals for the victors, with Billy McLacklin (2), Andrew Thompson and Wes Wilson getting the others. Kenny Melvin (3) and Mark Pattinson scored for Beehive.

Meanwhile, Loves beat Newton Aycliffe 6-1, Old Shildon beat Horndale 5-0 and Thorns beat Green Tree 6-3.

Lakeside and Binchester SC drew 1-1 - Martin Walker for Lakeside and a Malcolm Scott own goal were the scorers.

* Newton Aycliffe go into this Sunday's B&A Trophy first round match at home to Second Division Voltigeur knowing they will face rivals Thorns in the next round.
