A DOG left for dead after a car accident has finally found a home after six months.

Sunny, a two-year-old lurcher and greyhound cross-breed, suffered a punctured lung and a badly damaged leg after he was hit by a car and left in the gutter.

But a driver who saw the incident took Sunny to a vet's surgery, where he was given the name for his patient and gentle nature.

Pat Smith, from Saltburn Animal Rescue Association (Sara), who looked after Sunny for six months along with 16 other greyhounds at her home, said: "We are thrilled he has, at last, got a home.

"He came to us as a very sad and badly injured dog, and he suffered a lot of pain as the operation he had was not straight forward at all.

"But he was very brave and all credit must go to another of my rescue dogs, Edward, who is very bouncy and befriended Sunny and helped him forget about his injuries.

"Edward has also found a nice home and I will miss them both."

His new owners, Des and Beth Sumners, from Middlesbrough, said Sunny was settling in very well.

Mr Sumners said: "He has a marvellous temperament, although he does not like cats.

"We have ten grandchildren and he gets on well with them.

"You can even take a bone off him and he doesn't grumble. He certainly deserved a better life and we hope we can give him that."

All Sara's dogs are vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.
