Durham County Cup, Burnmoor 1 Rovers 8: This was Rovers at their best, crushing the previously well-fancied Burnmoor by eight goals to one.
They pace of Keith Hutchinson, Michael Ford and Stuart Greig was soon causing havoc in the home defence as they attacked from the start and were soon two goals to the good - Hutchinson bagging two in the first ten minutes and being only inches away from a third. Rovers continued their relentless pressure but the home side pulled a goal back before half-time. Pearson set up Ford for a well-deserved goal and Lee Keers beat four defenders before finishing at the second attempt. Hutchinson completed his hat-trick before sub Stephen Ashton made his mark setting up the tireless Ford to crash the ball home. Ashton then added his own name to the scoresheet, latching on to a long ball and beating defender and keeper to slot home and Andy McKenna completed the scoring from the spot after Ford had been upended.
Chester-le-Street GW Horners 2 Sports Bar 3 (aet)
Sports Bar reached the last 16 for the first time with a hard-fought away win. The first half remained goal-less after good work by both keepers. Sports Bar eventually broke the deadlock when Mick Ross raced clear and lobbed the keeper. Horners soon equalised but Bar were soon back in front from Phil Graham's bullet header. The home side again equalised to take the game to extra time and Galen Stewart grabbed the golden goal, beating two defenders and curling the ball round the keeper.
Burn Valley Club 3 South Shields Riverside 1
A fine team performance against a strong South Shields side saw Burn Valley through. Neil Hay opened the scoring from the edge of the box and Davis Watson headed in the second. The visitors threw everything at Valley, but found keeper Stephen Jewson in fine form. They did pull one goal back but the home side put a superb move together which ended with Andrew Tose chipping the keeper from 25 yards. The home side were forced to re-shuffle their defence for the second half, but combined with more saves from Jewson, they held on.
Athletic Rugby 5 Darlington Spraire 0
The home side started the stronger and took a deserved lead when Stephen Manson played a ball through for Alan Hoey to finish superbly and claim his 100th goal in Athletic's colours. He claimed another after rounding the keeper and Manson fired home the third. Terry Hill supplied a superb pas for Hoey to complete his hat-trick. The second half followed a similar pattern but Athletic only added one more when Phil Nicholson fired home after good work by guttridge. The prolific Hoey and veteran Taylor were magnificent.
