SIR Ben Gill, president of the NFU, received his knighthood at Buckingham Palace last Friday.
Sir Ben, who farms 360 acres at Easingwold, was knighted in the Queen's birthday honours list for his services to agriculture, conservation and the community.
His investiture was conducted by Prince Charles.
Sir Ben has been NFU president since 1998 but has announced he is to stand down at the end of his tenure in February 2004.
"This represents the achievements of the NFU and its staff over the period of my presidency," he said.
"I am proud of the organisation's professionalism and its support capability, without which we would not have had such success."
Sir Ben was made a CBE in 1996 for services to agriculture. He is married to Carolyn and has four sons
