MORE than 150 jobs and potential investment by national food producers could be in store for Seaham as a result of a major expansion by Yearsley Cold Storage and Distribution.
The Yearsley Group is one of the country's leading frozen food distribution and storage companies, with five depots across the North-West, the Midlands and South-East, and now the firm is building its sixth in Seaham.
Yearsley's £10m cold store is being built at Fox Cover Enterprise Park, on the outskirts of Seaham, where more than 40 jobs have been created in the construction of the 110,000sq ft depot.
Contractors for the company, Russells Construction, of Trafford, have employed local workers to complete the nine-month project and also brought in North-East firms to erect the steel frame and carry out groundworks on the site.
Regional development agency One NorthEast, the County Durham Development Company and Easington District Council helped bring the Yearsley Group to Seaham.
