SIX people were arrested and heroin was seized after drugs raids across Teesside and east Cleveland.

Stockton Drugs Unit and Stockton District Support Unit went to properties in Newbury Way and Sherburn Avenue, in the Billingham and Stockton areas, on Thursday, and seized heroin worth £12,500 and £1,000 in cash.

Two men aged 29 and 60 and two women aged 29 and 63 were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.

Sergeant John Coates, of the support unit, said: "This is an excellent all-round effort by everyone concerned in this substantial recovery of heroin, proving our commitment in the fight against drugs in the Stockton district."

Officers from the Langbaurgh drugs squad also targeted dealers on Thursday in the Skelton area, whom they suspected to be involved in the supply of class A and B drugs.

A house was searched and a substantial amount of what police believe to be Ecstasy and cannabis was seized, as well as a quantity of cash.

A man aged 22 has been arrested in relation to offences of possession of a class A controlled drug with intent to supply.

Another 18-year-old man has been arrested for possession of a class B drug with intent to supply.

Both men have been questioned by police and are on police bail.

Detective Constable Paul Gordon, from the drugs squad, said: "We will not tolerate any form of drug dealing in the Langbaurgh area, and with the support from the public, we will endeavour to bring these individuals to justice."
