THOSE who went down to Arncliffe Woods off the Cleveland Way at the weekend were in for a big surprise.
The winter scene above Ingleby Cross was enhanced by an unusual piece of artwork featuring mirrors and microphones, an installation with a sound and visual theme entitled More than Reality.
It was created by Sarah Mayhew, 22, (pictured) a final art student at Winchester School of Art, who spent several weeks on the piece and completed it on Saturday.
Passers-by were able make comments, and the work attracted a lot of interest.
"Camouflaged microphones amplified the weather, the sound of the trees, hum from the road and chatter of people walking by, and the mirrors created a scene more real than real," she said.
Her previous exhibitions have been held in the more usual surroundings of Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.
After graduating this year, she intends taking a year out to travel and earn money to enable her to do an MA the following year. "My ultimate goal is to become a working artist," she said.
The work was due to be dismantled on Sunday.
